Meet Matilda

Matilda Press is a contemporary jewellery designer based in Scotland. Her work explores shifting moments of light, natural and artificial, and the many forms and patterns it creates.

Matilda works with precious metals and gemstones from her Glasgow bench, creating small collections and one off pieces of bold yet elegant jewellery.

Inspiration

Fleeting moments

Matilda draws inspiration from documenting the human night-time environments. In darkness, we are guided either by the sparkling moon and stars or by the glow of artificial light, both beautiful in their own way. Through long-exposure photography, Matilda captures the movement of artificial light, observing how colour dances and flows through the night.

Process

Precious metals

From these images, she gathers patterns, shapes, and colour palettes that directly inform her distinctive designs. Working with precious metals and gemstones, she creates geometric and organic forms that echo her captured light trails. Delicate structures encase and partially conceal gemstones, suspending them in the space between intersecting wires.

Matilda was awarded several prizes for her Graduate collection in 2024 and has since been featured in contemporary jewellery galleries across the UK.
