Harvest Contemporary Craft Fair by Craft Scotland

October brings the brand new contemporary craft fair ‘HARVEST’ hosted by Craft Scotland and curated by Stacey Hunter. Harvest is a multidisciplinary craft fair featuring the work of 80 artists and designers based across Scotland. I’m so excited to have a small 5 piece collection at Harvest - based on the concept I created reacting to the theme of harvest.
Before the invention of artificial light, ancient civilisations relied on the stars for calendars, navigation, and agriculture. Constellations appearing at certain points in the night sky signalled when to plant and harvest crops — for example, the Pleiades in the Southern Hemisphere, Orion in the Northern Hemisphere, and Virgo, symbolising fertility and the bounty of the harvest.
Matilda’s work reflects on humanity’s power to dim and obscure the stars with artificial light. While city lights create patterns that are playful and beautiful, they also diminish the ancient starlight that has long inspired wonder, imagination, and history.
Exploring this tension, Matilda creates geometric structures from precious metals and gemstones. Her new pieces for ‘Craft Scotlands Harvest 2025’ capture harvest-time stars and celestial objects, suspended within metal grids — partially obscured, yet preserved.
Harvest will run at Edinburgh’s ‘City Art Centre’ from the 11th - 19th October.
